Alyssa Carson said: I first became interested in space when I was about three years old. I guess my interest was sparked by the cartoon ‘The Backyardigans’. This show had friends who would have imaginary adventures and fun in every episode and one of those episodes was a mission to go to Mars.

I had a poster of that particular episode stuck in my bedroom for years. Alyssa Carson My father used to look at it daily and wonder what Alyssa has put up. Then I used to tell him that I also want to go there, how will I be able to go and used to ask a lot of questions about space and Mars. From that moment on, my passion and enthusiasm for space never diminished.

How do you envision human settlement on the Red Planet? Are there any research findings from the Mars mission that could benefit Earth?

Alyssa : Colony building on Mars will not only help humans understand our ability to go to Mars but also help humans to live on Mars in case Earth is destroyed. Mars is a future exploration to find out if there is nitrogen or air there. This is the first step in space exploration.

Life there is going to be very different and difficult. As the number of people increases, people will be able to live there. You will have to wear a brown space suit as soon as you step out of the front door. However, the resources or discoveries are beneficial for our planet Earth. The way the population is increasing on Earth, after some years people will be sent here and they will be nurtured there.

What’s a typical school day like for you—and do you really study in four different languages?

Alyssa: I went to high school at an international immersion school. It had multilingual learning. From kindergarten on, Alyssa Carson learned all of her subjects in four different languages: English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin. My days were never the same.

I always did something or the other in my free time, which helped me learn quickly, including classes and homework. After a few days, I had to travel for training or lectures, but I tried to stay in school and learn as much as I could, but I didn’t have enough time. Still, I got to this point. If I can do it, you can too.

If I return, I will become a teacher— Alyssa Carson
